F A Q s

What can I expect from my first session?

We’ll review the questionnaire you completed, discuss any limitations you may have and explore your goals.

You’ll become familiar with the apparatus and learn to use it safely.

We’ll run through a basic workout on the mat and some of the equipment to understand your strength and flexibility. From here, we’ll identify what you specifically need in a program for improved whole-body health.

What’s an Open Studio session?

You’ll have your own program and train at your own pace under expert guidance in a small group of friendly people who work at different levels. I’ll guide you from the start, so you become familiar with the language and exercises to find and feel the connections in your body. As you progress, you’ll be given more exercises on different equipment across the studio to strengthen and challenge your body.

Should I stick to privates or join an Open Studio session?

Sometimes it’s best to stick to private sessions, especially if you have a long-term medical condition or you’ve recently succumbed to an injury or illness that requires one-on-one attention. You can also supplement your Open Studio session with a 30-minute private session to discuss your fitness goals or run through the finer details relating to any exercise.

Joining an online session

  1. You'll be sent a confirmation and reminder with a link to your session

  2. Use a device with a camera and microphone such as your smart phone, tablet or laptop

  3. If it’s your first-time using Zoom, download the Zoom.us app onto your phone or tablet, or the software package for your laptop. You will only need to do this once, and you can contact me about setting it up

  4. When it's time for your session, set up your equipment and mat (a yoga mat is fine) or you can even lie on a thick towel

  5. Position your camera to cover a side or angular view of your mat

  6. Test your microphone and camera prior to your scheduled appointment and minimise background noise.

What is Contrology?

Though it’s more commonly known as Pilates, Joseph Pilates actually called his exercise method Contrology. In his book, “Return To Life”, Pilates says “Contrology is complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit. Through Contrology you first purposefully acquire complete control of your own body and then through proper repetition of its exercises you gradually and progressively acquire that natural rhythm and coordination associated with all your subconscious activities…” And, “Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” This is the objective in our regular practice.

What’s your cancellation policy?

If you can’t make it to your session or class, please cancel your booking online. For all sessions, 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule.

If you late cancel or no-show, you will be charged. See Terms and Conditions.

What if my class is cancelled?

In the event a class needs to be cancelled, you will be notified as soon as we are aware. Our online group classes need a minimum of 2 people to proceed. Where less than 2 people are booked, the class will be either reduced to 45 minutes or cancelled 2 hours prior to start time, and you’ll receive a credit.

What should I wear and bring to class?

Wear something you feel comfortable to work out in such as stretchy fitted clothing. Please refrain from wearing jewellery or clothing with zippers as they can damage the upholstery when you’re doing a workout in the studio. Bring a sweat towel and water bottle.

Do I need to complete any forms?

You will be required to fill out a New Client Form prior to your first session. This can be completed as part of your first booking. It’s important you list known conditions or symptoms, as they may limit your range of motion. It’s possible you may require medical clearance before participating in some classes if you have major issues.

What should I do if I have any injuries?

Please always let us know at the beginning of your session if there are any issues or injuries, or you’re not feeling good that day. This ensures we can provide you with alternatives during the session. If you have had an acute injury or surgery and/or you are recovering from injury, we recommend booking a Private Session.

Do I need to be fit?

If you have had a chronic condition, it’s important you have been cleared by your doctor to exercise. Our classes are designed to challenge anyone from the fittest to those who are absolute beginners. Exercises are always adapted to suit your needs, regardless of your fitness level.

Do I need any equipment at home if I do an online Pilates class?

The beauty of Pilates is that you can work solely on the mat, and even a wall or use other equipment such as the Magic Circle, resistance bands, hand weights, towels, steps, weighted poles, right through to the complete suite of Pilates studio apparatus.

Where can I buy some equipment for home?

You can buy most small pieces of equipment from your local sports store.

For a more complete home workout, a Wunda Chair will nicely complement your Pilates practice. The Wunda Chair is functional, space saving and can be part of your living room furniture.

Classical Pilates apparatus can be purchased from specialised suppliers. Contact me to find out more.
